An Evening with Fred Swann

The Building Bridges ministry of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church will present “An Evening with Fred Swann: Sharing his Experience of Music and the Church” on Tuesday, November 27, at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Fred needs no introduction to the members of St. Margaret’s because he is our Organ-Artist-in-Residence. For many Southern Californians, he’s also known for his 16 years as the organist at “The Crystal Cathedral” in Garden Grove and his 13 years at First Congregational Church in Los Angeles.

In addition, he was the organist at Riverside Church in New York City for more than 20 years.

Fred served as Chair of the Organ Department at the Manhattan School of Music (10 years), on the faculties of the School of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary and the Teacher’s College of Columbia University, NYC, and as University Organist and Artist Teacher of Organ at Redlands University. He was the President of the American Guild of Organists (6 years) – a national organization of 25,000 musician/organist members.

Fred has performed in more than 3,000 solo concerts in major churches, cathedrals, and concert halls throughout the world, including Cologne Cathedral (Germany), Westminster Abbey (London), Saint Petersburg and Moscow (Russia), Sydney and Melbourne (Australia), Notre Dame (Paris), and all 50 states in the USA. In addition, he has performed frequently with symphony orchestras and choral organizations.

Admission to this event is FREE, and a reception will follow in Meyers Hall.
