Bishop James Mathes has announced that he has been elected to serve as the associate dean of students at Virginia Theological Seminary and will resign from his position as the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego in June. Please join us on the First Sunday in Lent, March 5, for his episcopal visitation to St. Margaret’s, his last official visit to the Coachella Valley.
Lane Hensley, St. Margaret’s Rector, said, “Bishop Mathes has offered steady leadership through a period of difficult transition in the Episcopal Church for the past 12 years. I’m grateful for his service here. San Diego is a much healthier diocese than it was when he took the helm, and that’s to his credit. I congratulate him on combining his passion for church leadership with academics, his first vocational love. Jim and Terri are in my prayers for this significant next chapter in ministry.”
