The St. Margaret’s Chamber Singers and St. Margaret’s Schola Cantorum are joining voices for Choral Evensong for All Saints’ Day, to be held on Sunday, November 3, at 4 p.m. This will take the place of November’s Compline service.
The Chamber Singers are directed by John Wright, and Schola Cantorum is directed by Mark Austin. Frederick Swann will be the organist for this service.
Evensong is a traditional Anglican service, part of the reformed practice of the Daily Office. Similar in many ways to the spoken service of Evening Prayer, it is known as Evensong when the service is musical. It is roughly equivalent to Vespers in the Roman Catholic and the Lutheran churches.
The service will include readings from Scripture, the singing of Psalms and the canticles Magnificat and Nunc dimintis, hymns and prayers.
Following the service, Frederick Swann will play a 20-minute organ recital. A free-will offering will be collected at the conclusion of the evening.
Invite your friends. Bring your neighbors. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce St. Margaret’s to someone new.
