New garden to be named for sole living charter member

The Rector with Caroline Berkey at her 100th birthday celebration, September 27, 2017

The small garden area around the bell tower is being re-landscaped with blooming desert plants to celebrate the 100th birthday of our only living charter member, Caroline Berkey.

Following the St. Margaret’s Day 10 a.m. Eucharist, pipers and drummers will lead the congregation to the bell tower, where Assisting (Interim) Bishop and former Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (2006-2015) Katharine Jefferts Schori will bless a new garden, naming the area the Berkey Centennial Garden. The ashes of Caroline’s husband George, a founding Vestry member of St. Margaret’s, are at rest in the garden.

Gifts in honor of Caroline and her longstanding leadership and service at St. Margaret’s should be made to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, with “Berkey Centennial Garden” in the memo. Credit card gifts can be made by phone at 760-346-2697, ext. 125.
