Sunday Compline Service to Begin in October

Beginning on October 7, St. Margaret’s will offer an evening choral compline service on the first and third Sundays of the month through May. It will be held in Karns Hall beginning at 7 p.m.

Under the direction of Mark Austin, a member of the St. Margaret’s choir and Director of Vocal Music at La Quinta High School, the newly formed St. Margaret’s Schola Cantorum will offer this 45-minute completely “a cappella” service. They began rehearsal this month.

This service is drawn from the most contemplative and meditative of the monastic offices begun in the Middle Ages. It is a candlelit service offering music from Gregorian Chant and early polyphony to the contemporary music of modern mystics.

Mark said, “It has been my dream to start a Schola Cantorum group at St. Margaret’s and to offer this service.”

If you love music or if you’re looking for a deeply spiritual way to end your weekend and prepare for the coming week, you will enjoy this service. Bring a friend. Invite a neighbor.
