The Rev. Patricia Horkey joined the staff of St. Margaret’s a few months ago as our Pastoral Associate by special arrangement with the Diocese of San Diego. In this part-time position, she leads our Pastoral Care ministry.
Tricia received both her Bachelor of Religion degree and her Master of Arts in Education-Curriculum Instruction from Chapman University, and her Master of Divinity degree was granted by the Claremont School of Theology in 2017. She was ordained a Transitional Deacon last April and a Priest in December.
She comes to St. Margaret’s with a variety of experiences that have prepared her well for her ministry in pastoral care. From 2013 to the present, she has served as the Assistant to the Director at the Spirit Mountain Retreat in Idyllwild. In this role, she leads meditation groups, creates and facilitates interfaith worship services and provides spiritual direction and hospitality to guests and workshop participants.
From 2003 to 2012, she worked in the Coachella Valley Unified School District as a general education and special education teacher. Prior to that, Tricia was a teacher in both the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, instructing students in religion, math and language arts.
She is the founder of the Precious Elder Ministry at St. Hugh’s in Idyllwild. This ministry focuses on linking the elderly and their caregivers within the parish and community with federal, state and county resources to meet the physical and spiritual needs. Tricia is also the co-founder of the Interfaith Alliance which brings together representatives of different religions and spiritual groups to discuss the needs of the community and how to meet those needs. She has done missionary service in Uganda and the Bahamas and has even volunteered at the Neighbors4Neighbors program at St. John’s/Indio.
Tricia will be at the Ministry Fair this Sunday, and we encourage everyone to stop by the Pastoral Care table to greet her and introduce yourself. We will see her more frequently at worship this summer when she will be serving as the Celebrant and/or Preacher at numerous services.
